  • Modesty is important to us and it will be enforced
  • Dresses are tea length or longer.
  • WE WILL NOT be fixing dresses this year. There were just too many that thought undoing the fixes would be a good idea.

  • Slits cannot be more than just above the knee AND AGAIN, WE WILL NOT BE HELPING FIX THE SLITS OR MAKE DRESS ADJUSTMENTS.
  • Dress shirts and pants required. No t-shirts, no shorts, large rips or dirty clothing.

If you still have questions about whether or not an outfit will be acceptable, email notsonormalformal@gmail.com by Sunday, May 18th for consideration.

THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS OR ALLOWANCES ON THE DRESS CODE. It is clearly stated above and if you have questions about your selection, you have plenty of time to ask in advance. Save yourself the time and just come in what you know fits the description.

Yes. We don’t discourage couples but we don’t encourage them either. We recommend that you come with a group of friends and dance the night away without having to worry about that someone else.

We audit all the music and try to catch any overtly sexual themes, coarse language, etc. We play all kinds of styles but stay with danceable tracks. We do take requests but not of your ā€˜favorite songs’ are danceable or may not appeal to the masses. We try to keep the evening upbeat and moving, with clean content so everyone can enjoy. We do have dance instructors that will lead the occasional line dance, swing track, or some other teachable dance style.

Yes, of course. Your safety is so important to us. We are NOT, however, a babysitting service for the evening. See disclaimer below.

Our Story

How it all started

🤩 Check out footage from last year's formal!

The nOtsOnOrmAl fOrmAl started 15 years ago with just 32 in a small rented cabin.Ā  Each year, we’ve grown in number and last year we nearly approached 850 total people in the venue.

The brief story is that our oldest girl went to her public middle school dance. She was so disappointed with how the kids acted (pushing each other into a tight circle, basically groping the girls and fooling around) and the music with it’s cursing and overly sexualized lyrics….in middle school.

She told us she’d like to get people together to dance so we said ā€œsure – you get some friends and we’ll figure something outā€. She came back and said she had 32 friends and we were stunned. Uh, ok…guess we really have to figure something out – LOL.

We rented a small cabin that didn’t have air and the parents brought some snacks.

We thought ā€˜this is a one and done good time’ and all the kids were asking ā€œso when are we going to do this againā€?!

We had no idea that almost 15 years later, we would still be doing this as annual event with almost 850 students coming out to last year!

Every year it continues to grow.
